 Music

The primary purpose of the committee is to provide weekly songs for the club meeting. A secondary purpose is to provide talent for special programs that Ann Arbor Rotary may develop from time to time. A good example is the 45 minute presentation designed to note the departure of the 2005-2006 President and the ascension of the 2006-2007 President. Most of the talent came from the Music Committee.

The work involved entails selecting two or three songs for the weekly meeting; printing and distributing about 150 copies of the words (8 copies per table); reviewing the music with the assigned accompanist; and then leading the club (conducting) as the members sing. Most of our accompanists can transpose to a key that the membership can accommodate vocally. Most club members are not aware that this transposition takes place unless they happen to have perfect pitch and have the music in front of them. This is a remarkable talent. At least three of our accompanists can transpose. All of the accompanists sight read, which is almost a necessity since the Song Leader is often not in a position to select the weekly music two weeks in advance.

We are always looking for more accompanists with sight-reading skill and, if very lucky, the ability to transpose. One or two more Song Leaders who can read a vocal score and at least beat time are also most welcome!
