May 2008 Speaker Series
MAY 7
Speaker: Stephen Postema, Ann Arbor City Attorney
Topic: Law in an Ordered Society
Heard any good lawyer jokes recently? Seriously, Rotarians, it is good to remember every so often how important the law and lawyering are to the freedoms, opportunities and privileges we all enjoy as Americans, and to the responsibilities that come with them. Fellow Rotarian Stephen Postema will put all this in perspective for us. Having left a lucrative large-firm private practice to serve not only the law but his home-town city, he is uniquely well suited to bring the message. Host/introducer: Libby Hines.
MAY 14
Speaker: Pat Warner, Chief Administrative Office, Mott Hospitals
Topic: The New U-M Mott Hospitals, An Investment in the Future
The new University of Michigan C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital is a $523 million work in progress. Planned for completion in 2011, it will be one of the finest children’s and women’s hospitals in the world. Mott Chief Administrative Officer Pat Warner will update us on construction of the new Hospitals, ongoing operation of the existing Mott Hospitals during construction, and what their completion will mean to the U-M Medical Center, the community, and the women and children they will serve. Host/introducer: Bob Bolak.
May 21
Performers: Huron High School Choirs
Director: Richard Ingram
For Ann Arbor Rotarians, one of the sweetest and most enjoyable signs of Spring is the annual noontime concert by the Huron High School Choirs. These award winning ensembles include the Bel Canto and A Cappella Choirs, for both of which the Rotary concert is part of a school-year-long schedule of performances at concerts, festivals and competitions. They will perform under the leadership of a member of our club’s extended family, Honorary Paul Harris Fellow Richard Ingram. Host/introducer: Gene Ingram.
MAY 28

An advocate for children throughout her career on the bench and in the private and prosecutorial practice of law, Justice Corrigan now serves on the board of Vista Maria, Michigan’s largest non-profit residential and community-based treatment agency for abused and neglected girls.
